Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple – A Sacred Shakti Peeth of Divine Power
Located atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati, Assam, Maa Kamakhya Devi Temple is one of the most powerful and mysterious Shakti Peeths in India.
Dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, the temple is a center of Tantra worship and is believed to be the place where the yoni (womb) of Goddess Sati fell, making it a symbol of feminine power, creation, and divine energy.
According to mythology, after Goddess Sati’s self-immolation, Lord Shiva roamed the universe in grief with her body. To restore balance, Lord Vishnu used his Sudarshan Chakra to dismember her body into 51 parts, which fell across India and formed Shakti Peeths.
